DREAMING UP A NEW OFFICE WITH POTTERY BARN TEEN

I recently received the Pottery Barn Teen magazine in the mail and seriously feel in love with something on every page.  A cup of coffee later and dog ears on every page I'm convinced there's something for everyone in this catalog.  Neither of us here at File to Style have the luxury of having a separate space designated for just an office so we both have space set aside in our bedrooms.  In order to use the space wisely I tend to find desks, chairs, accessories  designed for small spaces like teen rooms or dorm rooms almost the perfect size for what I need.  But we all have dreams right?...so check out our Dream Desk pinterest board for more inspiration.

Here are a few items I have my eye on:

Bulletin Board: Who doesn't need a good quality bulletin board to pin ideas,  motivational quotes, reminders and pictures to keep you inspired while you work.

Desk Organizer: These items are probably the most crucial for keeping order on any desk.  When I found this set that includes a pencil cup, magazine caddy, and divided tray in hot pink I knew it was love at first sight. Oh and if hot pink isn't your thing don't worry they have the most amazing turquoise and gold polka dot options to choose from.

Desk and Storage: After I got over the initial love affair with the blue and white striped walls...swoon. I absolutely feel in love (a 2nd time) with the desk and the amount of storage.  I really like how there's 2 work areas and it doesn't take up that much space.  If we're having an impromptu blog meeting or I'm working while my kids are doing homework this is the perfect set up.

Well I'm off to finish my cup of coffee and convince my husband why blue and white striped walls are a good idea...wish me luck :-)

A VERY BLUEBERRY OATMEAL

Today we are stepping a bit out of our comfort zone of the typical file to style posts and share a quick  recipe that is too delicious not to share with our readers.

Mornings are always so hectic in my house between getting ready for work, unloading dishes, switching laundry, catching up with emails, thumbing through my insta feed (and now watching insta stories) I needed a quick and healthy breakfast.

After our trip to the farmer's market I bought way to many blueberries.  I mean how was I supposed to resist the cuteness of how they were displayed in their teal containers.  So simple yet so irresistible.

I absolutely love blueberry pancakes but reserve those to the weekends when I have more time to cook.  For the weekdays I came up with something I could fix in under 2 minutes.  Blueberry Oatmeal.

Ingredients:
1 cup of water
1/2 cup of quick cooking oats
1/2 cup of blueberries
2 tablespoons of honey
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions:

Bring water to a boil then stir in oats.

Add blueberries, honey and cinnamon.  Stir for 1 min.  Remove from heat and let stand for 3 mins to cool.  Enjoy!!

See I told you it was super easy, quick and healthy.  I've even thought of adding more things like raisins or almonds.

Hope you get a chance to try this and let us know how you like it.

SUGAR PAPER @TARGET FOR THE WIN

For those of you who have been following us on Instagram you may have seen some sneak peaks of our flagship product.  After years of trying to find the perfect pen we decided to stop looking and just design our own.  But before we do any kind of formal launch we need to get our business details worked out and get all the administrative aspects organized.  Us File to Style gals love a good organizational project so we headed to...wait for it...Target.  I know we're so predictable :-) Our timing lined up perfectly with the Sugar Paper and Target collaboration.  We really went for timeless pieces that met our basic file needs as well as being stylish...our main motto.

Magazine Rack - I was really looking for something to store file folders since I'm kinda limited on space and don't have a separate file cabinet.  Since this is designed to hold magazines it has plenty of room to hold a lot of file folders.  It's really a quality piece and looks great sitting off to the side in the corner.  I also love that it's multi-functional and can always move it to my family room to hold magazine in the future.

File Folders - These folders are so durable and sturdy they work great in the magazine rack.  Over the past year I've collected folders from different brands and although they are stylish they are so flimsy and totally bend when trying to display.  I have to honestly say I'm so impressed with the quality of these files especially for the cost.  12 folders for $5.99 is a great deal.  Not to mention they have a very simple and sophisticated look they will never go out of style.

Pencil Cup - I actually went to 2 different Target stores to track down this beauty.  I knew this stylish and affordable piece would be perfect for holding our new pens and it did not disappoint.  I absolutely love the way the pens they look displayed on my desk.

Tape Dispenser and Washi Tape - This is truly a dynamic duo.  I don't normally use scotch tape so I instantly knew I was going to use it for the washi tape.  I use washi tape all the time in my planner and notebooks.  It helps highlight things like project due dates and block off things like vacations.

Weekly/Monthly Planner - This planner has proved to be a perfect business partner for me.  I'm able to use the monthly spread for blocking off time and pencil in product timelines.  Then the weekly pages are great to get more detailed.  What I love about the weekly layout is all the days of the week are listed on the left page and the right page has a 'this week' section and 'remember~notes~to do' section. Both sections are checklists which is so helpful when working with multiple tasks such as launching a site and blog planning.

Post-It Notes and Sticky Flags - I was really happy to find out these sticky notes were made with the same high quality as traditional post-it notes.  I don't know about you but I can't stand sticky notes that don't stick.  I mean what's the point...right?  I use sticky notes all day long and by the end of a work day they are on my desk, computer, planner, and files.  I've picked up several packs just to stock up.

I'm pretty sure I'll end up picking up a few more items but I had to draw the line somewhere :-)

All of the products I mentioned are still on Target.com and stock is very limited at the stores so I suggest to buy what you want now so you don't miss out.

THE BEST OF THE #NSALE

The Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale has about everyone in blogging land, Instagram and just about any social media platform over the moon excited.  When a sale has it's own hashtag #NSale you know it's big.  Nordstrom's is also a marketing genius to have a 'sneak peak' early access shopping event for their card members.  I've honestly joined in on the excitement and went into my local Nordstrom's and shopped behind the curtains to see some of my wishlist items in person.

Here's a few roundups of our favorite items to make your shopping a little easier.

striped shirt (<--- only $17!) // cowl neck sweater // cross front tee

Happy shopping and hope you find something fun!!

FILE TO STYLE DAY DESIGNER FOR TARGET REVIEW

Hello and happy Tuesday.  As you know we are huge fans of the Day Designer.  Over the years we've both used a Day Designer and absolutely loved it (you can read it here) so you can imagine our excitement when they launched a line at Target.  I mean come on...what a great collab.

Right now we're having a give away for one of the Day Designer styles.  Check out our insta page to enter.

Keep reading for more details on one of our favorite designs.

For starters, don't you just love the first page.  It's so stylish and sets a very positive first impression. I don't always fill out the first page but it's still fun to stop and look at it every once in awhile.

These next few pages are such a great addition and I'm dedicated to use them this year.  The first page is all about the 'Big Picture'.  This page is intended to write down your dreams, ideas and visions.  I honestly can't wait to carve out time to do this.  It will be a great tool to reflect on and look back over throughout the year.  The next page is all about setting goals...personal, family, friends, heart/spirit, financial and work/career/study.  The third page helps you design your days to set yourself up to be successful.  The last page is designed to help you stay on course.

Since these pages are so well designed I'm looking forward to using them to stay on course and remind myself of what's important.

One of the reasons we selected this planner is for the above layout.  I love, love, love having a 2 page monthly spread.  I use these pages to jot down high-level blog ideas, insta posts, and sometimes dinner ideas.  I really like the weekly sheets for appointments, after work activities and business meetings.

Well I hope you liked a deeper dive into this awesome Day Designer.

We plan on doing a few more of these planner reviews so stay tuned :-)

FILE TO STYLE DAY DESIGNER GIVEAWAY

This time of year is one of our favorites...a close second to the Fall and the Holidays.  Why you might ask?!?  It's the time of year when all the major brands launch their new agendas.  It's like agenda overload and to be completely honest we will probably try almost each one out.  Because they are all so cute and functional in their own unique way we tend to have different agendas for different aspects of our life.  The older half of File to Style works full time, manages a crazy house with a hubby and 3 kids while the younger half also works and is a full-time student.  So you can only imagine how different our lives are at times but at the root of all the chaos is a great agenda.

To kick off our favorite time of year we are giving away 1 Day Designer for Target to a lucky follower.  Jump out to our Insta feed to find out how to enter.

Good luck to everyone who enters.  The winner will be announced in 1 week from today so don't wait too long.

SUMMER {MAKE-UP} MUST HAVES

Now that the summer heat is in full swing it's time to step up my make-up products.  Just a few weeks ago I woke up to snow flurries and now the temps are staying steady at 80 degrees.  You can only imagine the havoc this can wreak for your skin. The heat and humidity can definitely change my skin from being very dry to now very oily.  I recently stopped at Macy's to find the perfect combo for my current skin condition.  I can't tell you how happy I am with the products I picked up.

Here's a run down:

1. Smashbox Photo Finish: I have to be honest I was a bit skeptical it could actually do what it says it can.  Such as "reduce fine lines, absorbs oil, matte finish...".  Let me be the first to say I'm now a full believer.  In the summer I get very shiny and oily and this stuff works wonders.  After the shower I still use my daily Aveeno Moisturizer  then I add the photo finish right on top.  I give it a few minutes to set before adding my foundation.  This is my new summer must have!!

2. Tarte setting powder: This stuff blew my expectations away.  I honestly thought I was a sucker at the makeup counter and getting talked into yet another powder that will end up in the back of my makeup drawer.  At first I didn't think it really did much until the day I forget to put it on.  This is now a must not forget finish to my make up application.

3. Bare Minerals Finisher Brush: I also have to give credit to this amazing brush for why I love the setting powder so much.  The brush is really the softest brush I've ever used.

4. Kate Spade Walk On Air Rollerball perfume: I wish you could smell through the computer because this perfume is my absolute favorite.  It has a perfect summer scent of every flower bottled up into one.  And the rollerball makes it easy to throw in my bag for quick re-applies during the day.

Last but not least...this necklace was a major MUST HAVE!!!  Nordstrom's has the best Kendra Scott assortment I just couldn't pass on this staple.  I've worn it with several outfits and I know it will be my go to summer accessory.

So there you have it...a few of our summer must haves.

Hope you enjoy!
