AROUND TOWN // MEMORIAL DAY

Good morning and happy Tuesday.

Here's a little recap of what we were up to this fun Holiday weekend.

Photo 1: This weekend was our mom's 60th birthday.  We planned a fun filled day in one of the cute little downtown areas.  First stop was our favorite coffee shop called Atomic Coffee.  The vanilla lavender latte is so unexpectedly good.

Photo 2 & 3: Our next stop was to this cute little art studio where we could pick out any pottery we wanted to paint.  The studio provides all the paint and once we're done we leave it for a few days while they finish it off. In typical File to Style fashion I picked a pen holder :-) I can't wait to see the final product because these colors look nothing like they do on the bottle.  I'm hoping it turns out more navy and teal.  I guess we'll have to wait and see!!

Photo 4: Our final stop to end a fun day was Mexican and Margaritas.  You can't go wrong with either and it did not disappoint. The whole family gathered to wish our mom a happy birthday.  I would've added a group shot but it was complete chaos with 15 people and 5 little kids.

Photo 5: The weekend ended with a Memorial Day parade in the heart of the city we grew up in.  And  around here a holiday isn't complete unless we include festive donuts.

We hope your weekend was as fun filled as ours.  Best part of a 3 day weekend is the work week starts on Tuesday.  Cheers to short weeks!!

ROOM RE-DO INSPIRATION

Since I'm going to a new college in the fall, my family took that as a good excuse to pack up and move onto a new adventure! With moving comes new beginnings... including a fresh, new space to re-decorate! Right now, my room is admittedly not the most organized (shocker, I know), so I'm excited to add a few updates to make it feel a little more cozy. There are a few things I know I want to add to my new space that I'm already working on... like a fun, inspirational gallery wall! After spending longer than I'd like to admit on Pinterest, I've used that inspiration to round up some of my favorite, budget-friendly room decor pieces!

Lilly Pulitzer for Garnet Hill duvet cover in "let's cha-cha" // set of two pink throw pillows // flamingo throw pillow (need this!) // pom pom throw pillow // capri blue candle (this is my favorite scent!) // blue area rug // Evelyn Henson "be a grizzly" print (Grizzlies are my new college mascot!) // ABD "I woke up like this" mug because what else would you drink coffee out of? // scalloped pot (you could use this for pencils or a cute vase for flowers!) // silver floor length mirror // mercury glass floor length lamp

Currently I have that grizzly print sitting in my cart and I'm in love with the beautiful floor lamp! I can't wait to add some of these pieces to my new room!

SHARING SOME MAY DESIGNS LOVE

It's no secret us File to Style gals love ourselves a great notebook.  A few weeks ago I scored a new May Designs notebook on sale and had the best time personalizing my cover. With so many options I probably spent way more time than necessary but I couldn't help myself. And the funny thing is the cover I picked was my first choice but isn't that how things always work out....lol!

When I opened my package I found out about my new favorite day #NationalNotebookDay.  I mean seriously what a great idea. I've enjoyed popping over to their Insta feed throughout the day to see all the fun pics.

One of the best things about these notebooks is keeping them on display.  Once I'm done using them I just can't bring myself to toss it out so instead I'm going to start a collection.  It will be fun going back to my old books to see my random brain dumps or what crazy idea I was cooking up at the time.

Happy National Notebook Day!!

BEST IN BEAUTY // BEAUTY BAG SPILL SAVE VS. SLPURGE

I'll admit it... I'm a beauty product hoarder. I love trying new products weather it's a new mascara or a new cleanser for my skin. I think good quality beauty products that actually work are available for any budget, however I also think that there are some products that are worth the splurge! Today I'm sharing some of my favorite "splurge" and "save" products that I love!

1. Foundation- Splurge
Foundation is something that I like to spend a little money on since I have pretty sensitive skin and I like to avoid things that will potentially clog my pores and break me out. I learned through going to the dermatologist that sticking to makeup that is mineral based is better for your skin since the makeup won't sink into your pores and cause breakouts. My favorite has been Bare minerals, specifcally the complexion rescue and the powder foundation, but I've been wanting to try the It Cosmetics CC cream

2. Powder- Splurge
My favorite powder is the IT Cosmetics bye bye pores powder. It's Translucent and doesn't make your makeup look cakey or powdery. I even like to wear this alone on days I'm not wearing makeup because it does a great job at keeping my skin shine-free!

3. Blush & Bronzer- Splurge
Noticing a trend? Like I mentioned earlier, I tend to spend a little money on the products that go on my face since my skin is so sensitive. Right now my favorites are Bare Minerals and Smashbox! I've been looking for some great drugstore options to test out, so leave suggestions below!

4. Eyeliner- Save
I can be picky about eyeliners since I want something that is pigmented as well as last all day. That being said, I've actually found some great options at the drugstore that actually work really well! Right now I'm using the Maybelline line stiletto eyeliner and so far I love it!

4. Mascara- Splurge/Save
I've found great mascaras at both price points! Right now I'm loving the Benefit roller lash as my go-to. I like my mascara to not clump up, last all day and give my lashes a lot of volume!

Thanks for stopping by, we would love to hear your beauty bag favs in the comments below!

HOLIDAY HUSTLE // MOTHER'S DAY GIFT GUIDE

With Mother's day right around the corner we thought this would be the perfect time to round up some of our favorite gift ideas that we know any mom will love! Let us know if you have any additional gift ideas by leaving us a comment!

ABD floral mug- My mom loves her coffee, and who doesn't love having a collection of cute little mugs to drink it out of? A cute mug with a box of her favorite K-cups or some of her favorite coffee would make the perfect gift!

Nike free running shoe- Any mom would really appreciate a nice pair of tennis shoes, especially when they're cute and comfy! Perfect for weekend wear or running errands!

Tula purifying face cleanser- I'm seriously obsessed with this stuff! My skin has never felt so smooth or looked so clear! This would make a great gift since the probiotic technology behind this brand makes it suitable for any skin type. Also, the discovery kit would make a great gift since you can try out every product!

Swell water bottle- These are one of my favorite gifts to give because everybody can find a use for a high quality water bottle. These are great since they keep your drinks hot or cold- perfect for fresh water or coffee when you're on the go!

Neutrogena body wash- The other day my mom and I were out shopping when she pointed out this body wash she has been wanting and hinted at as a little gift for the big day- you can never go wring with a luxurious body wash!

Pajama set- These are great gifts to give because who doesn't love sleeping in a cozy pair of PJs?? The Gilligan O'malley ones from target are my favorites!

OPI nail polish- Treat your mom to a mani/pedi on her special day! How fun would it be to grab lunch at her favorite place and head over to the salon for a little pampering??

Thank you so much for reading! How are you celebrating your mom this mother's day?

XOXO
