AROUND TOWN // NATIONAL SISTERS DAY!

Happy Monday, friends! I hope you all had a great, relaxing weekend!

There's only a few more weekends before it's time to head back to school and I'm trying to take advantage of every last second! This month I have some fun stuff left like the last of my sorority photoshoots, baseball games, farmer's market trips, birthday celebrations, and so much more!

This past week was filled with work and preparing for school, so this weekend I wanted to relax and have some fun! It consisted of a lot of movie-watching, going out to eat, downtown exploring and enjoying the chillier weather we've had!

Here's what I've been up to...

PHOTO #1: NATIONAL SISTERS DAY

Yesterday was national sisters day! Of course I had to share one of my favorite pictures of the two of us! These past two years wouldn't be the same without sharing File to Style with my sister! Working together and coming up with new goals and ideas has turned into one of our favorite things to do together! Stay tuned for some exciting things we've been working on this summer coming up really soon!

PHOTO #2: BACK TO SCHOOL SHOPPING

Please tell me I'm not the only one who walks into Target and gets excited about seeing the back-to-school display set up?? Getting fresh pens, notebooks, and folders will never get old! It gets me inspired to take on the new semester ahead!

PHOTO #3: FARMERS MARKET FUN

My boyfriend and I decided to spend one morning walking around one of our local downtown areas- wile we initially went to get some lunch, we found the farmers market and decided to explore that! They had the cutest little succulents that I was really tempted to take home to keep at my desk!

I had a nice relaxing weekend before having to jump back into my "work week", but I'm excited to start getting back into a little routine and being more productive!

AROUND TOWN // A SWEET SUMMER WEEKEND

Hello and happy Monday! I hope you all have been having a great summer and had an amazing weekend!

You may have noticed a few changes here on the blog- I decided to take another small hiatus from actually blogging to kind of re-vamp the site and get re-inspired for the end of the summer as well as the upcoming school year!

I have a lot of fun stuff planned for the rest of the summer before I head back to school that I'm excited to share here on the blog, as well as a bunch of fun posts related to organization, school, sorority, inspiration, and so much more!

This past weekend was spent doing a bunch of fun summertime activities including a trip to the zoo, fried oreos, and visiting a new aquarium! Here's a little peek into what I've been up to...

PHOTO #1: SIGMA ZOO TRIP

On Friday I went to the zoo with a few girls from my sorority to get some footage for our recruitment video we've been working on! This was the first video shoot I was able to go to this summer and I had so much fun! I got to see some of my sisters I haven't seen since school got out, eat some dippin dots, and take a bunch of pictures! Now I'm even more excited to go back to school and go through my first formal recruitment weekend!

PHOTO #2: FUN AT THE FAIR

This weekend my boyfriend and I also went to a local fair and had such a fun time! We started off the day walking through the tents to see the animals, and then we rode a few rides, ate lunch, and of course ended the day with some fried oreos!

PHOTO #3: A DAY AT THE AQUARIUM

My boyfriend and I also decided to check out our local aquarium! It's no Shedd but for a smaller sized aquarium it was actually really cool! We had so much fun looking at the fish, going to the interactive exhibits, and taking a bunch of funny pictures! For sure a great way to spend a sunday afternoon!

AROUND TOWN // GIRLS WEEKEND UP NORTH

Good Morning and happy Monday, friends! We hope you had a great weekend and are ready for the week ahead!

This past weekend my cousins and I took a girls trip to their new cottage up north! Despite the weather being cold and rainy (and me only packing donut pool floats and shorts...ha.) we had a great time gift shopping, latte drinking, and watching say yes to the dress on the couch! I'm already looking forward to our next trip up north, but hopefully the weather will be a little warmer!

Anyway, here's a little peek into my weekend!

PHOTO #1: DINNER BY THE DOCK

We left for our girls weekend on friday afternoon, so the first thing we did when we got up there was drop off our luggage, throw on some warmer sweatshirts, and head back out for dinner! Although we ate inside since it was super windy and cold outside, we still sat by the windows so we could have a good view of the lake. I can't wait to go back later in the summer so we can eat outside on the dock!

On Saturday, the weather warmed up a little bit so we took advantage of the sunny afternoon to head into town to do a little gift shopping and of course get some coffee! We found the cutest little coffee shop in town that had amazing lattes, bubble tea, and an instagram dream wall for awesome pictures! This was definitely one of my favorite stops of the trip...we even went back Sunday morning before heading home!

If you can't tell from this pic, we were freezing! Like I said, I wasn't very prepared when I was packing. However, my cousin and I (who are both in the same sorority on campus, how cool??) both remembered to pack our favorite Letters by Alex sweatshirts for the weekend!

Sadly, all fun things must come to an end. However, this was only the beginning of a fun summer! I have almost every weekend until class starts back up in September planned with fun weekends, and trips and I can't wait!

AROUND TOWN // MOTHER'S DAY WEEKEND

Hello, and happy Monday! I hope your weekend was full of family, fun, and great weather!

I've decided to bring back my around town posts to share a little peek into my life! Also, now that I'm on summer break until September (!!!) I have a lot of fun plans coming up that I can't wait to share!

Here's a little peek into my weekend...

PHOTO #1: WEEKEND FUN AND TARGET RUNS

I popped into Target with the intentions of getting snacks to sneak into the movies (BTW- we saw Guardians of the Galaxy and it was so good!), but I stumbled across the new Day Designer collection! I can't decide what my favorite print it between the blue and white pattern and the palm leaf print!

On Sunday, we celebrated my mom! We started off by heading over to my brother's house for a fun afternoon and then ended the day at my sister's for a BBQ dinner complete with mimosas and a family kickball game. Also- I just got this dress and I already know it's going to be my go-to all summer long!

After a few chilly weeks the weather finally started to warm up this weekend! My favorite thing about the springtime is all the blooming flowers and these lilacs did not disappoint!

AROUND TOWN // LAST SUMMER WEEKEND

Where did the summer go?? I feel like  just blinked and it was over! Between my work schedule this coming week, an exciting launch coming to File to Style this Wednesday (!!!) and starting fall classes this Thursday I'm already exhausted. But, I always say the busiest weeks are the best weeks!

Also, a little update: with the fall being a busy time for the both of us, we've decided to cut back to posting here on the blog 3 days a week instead if 5! We thought it would be the best way to share quality content with our readers as well as put the focus and effort into a big project we've been working on! So, check back on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for your dose of File to Style!

Now... a little peek at what we've been up to this weekend!

PHOTO #1: LILLY LOVE

After running around all day on Friday, it was such a nice surprise to see some of my Lilly Pulitzer after party sale goodies rolling in! I got some peices that will be great to wear into the fall and comfy to wear in class!

PHOTO #2: GOAL GETTERS

We've been putting in the hustle this past week trying to get these cute pens ready for purchase! Here is just a little sneak peek we snapped while setting up our little office and shipping space... we like to think of is as "organized chaos'. Ha!

PHOTO #3: FRESH BLOOMS

On Sunday I spent a lot of time prepping for the first day of class coming up... including a practice drive to campus since I'll be commuting (don't judge, I'm terrible with directions!). I was so excited to find a Trader Joe's right across the street from my school, so of course I had to pop in to pick up some fresh flowers and my favorite coffee! If you've never tried Trader Joe's breakfast blend coffee you need to!

AROUND TOWN // BIRTHDAY WEEKEND FUN!

Happy Monday everybody! This weekend was a great one- Friday we went up to one of our favorite outdoor malls for coffee and a little window shopping and Sunday I had two little birthday parties! It was such a great way to spend one of the last weekends before class starts!

BTW- If you're not shopping the Lilly Pulitzer after party sale right now then what are you doing?!?

PHOTO #1 WEEKEND FUN & COFFEE RUNS

Friday night we took a trip to our favorite outdoor mall and of course we had to stop for a Starbucks! It was so much fun popping into our favorite shops as well as take a break to sip our coffee and chat about some very exciting things coming to File to Style at the end of this month!

PHOTO #2 PAPERSOURCE PARTY

After finishing our coffee we stopped by one of our favorite stores- Papersource! We always leave so inspired with all their fun products and brightly decorated store! This particular day they even had decoration station set up so you could bring in your planner and decorate it with all their cool washi tape, stamps, stickers and pens for F-R-E-E! How cool?!

PHOTO #3 BIRTHDAY FUN!

My birthday was actually this past Wednesday, so this weekend I was able to squeeze some celebrations in! On Sunday all the sweet girls I work with thew me a little party complete with pizza, cupcakes and even a donut backpack! That was so much fun! Later on in the evening our whole family went out to dinner and had even more pizza and cake... can you say carb overload?! Thanks to everyone who made my birthday so special!

A VERY BLUEBERRY OATMEAL

Today we are stepping a bit out of our comfort zone of the typical file to style posts and share a quick  recipe that is too delicious not to share with our readers.

Mornings are always so hectic in my house between getting ready for work, unloading dishes, switching laundry, catching up with emails, thumbing through my insta feed (and now watching insta stories) I needed a quick and healthy breakfast.

After our trip to the farmer's market I bought way to many blueberries.  I mean how was I supposed to resist the cuteness of how they were displayed in their teal containers.  So simple yet so irresistible.

I absolutely love blueberry pancakes but reserve those to the weekends when I have more time to cook.  For the weekdays I came up with something I could fix in under 2 minutes.  Blueberry Oatmeal.

Ingredients:
1 cup of water
1/2 cup of quick cooking oats
1/2 cup of blueberries
2 tablespoons of honey
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions:

Bring water to a boil then stir in oats.  

Add blueberries, honey and cinnamon.  Stir for 1 min.  Remove from heat and let stand for 3 mins to cool.  Enjoy!!

See I told you it was super easy, quick and healthy.  I've even thought of adding more things like raisins or almonds.

AROUND TOWN // FARMERS MARKET FUN

Happy Monday! This weekend was a good one... popcorn, new hallmark movies, pool days and a trip to the farmers market! The best kind of relaxation before the hustle and bustle of back to school is in full swing!

PHOTO #1 VERY BERRY:

How can you resist fresh berries, especially when they're displayed so cute!? We love berries, especially in the summertime- so refreshing, and you can have so much fun coming up with easy recipes using these cuties. (PSSST- later this week we're sharing a quick, easy back-to-school breakfast idea using our farmer's market finds!)

PHOTO #2 WEEKEND LATTE

Since our local farmer's market is downtown, we can't leave without making a pit stop at our favorite coffee shop! If you're ever somewhere that offers a lavender latte you have to try it, seriously they're so good! Also, we always have our pens and planners in tow since we always end up having an impromptu planning session!

PHOTO #3 MOVIE NIGHT

There's nothing better than a movie night- especially when it involves new hallmark movies and popcorn! Perfect way to spend a Saturday night in.

AROUND TOWN // BEACH VACATION

Is it just me or does this feel like the Monday-est Monday ever...?! Somehow that's always the case the day after you get home from a vacation! If you follow our Instagram and stay up to date with our blog, you would know I spent a week at the beach up north! It was so much fun to relax and spend endless hours by the water- so today I wanted to share some of the highlights of the week!

PS- If you're from MI, or are planning on visiting you have to check out Traverse City! There are so many fun things to do, and Downtown Traverse City is the cutest!

PHOTO #1: LATTE BY THE BAY

I love a good latte, especially lavender lattes! (I know it might sound odd, but trust me- try one!) My favorite little coffee spot downtown is Espresso Bay... OMG their iced lavender lattes are addicting! Now I'm wishing I had one, maybe I can figure out how to DIY one?!

PHOTO #2: DONUT DISTURB

I think my donut pool float has quickly become one of my favorite purchases this summer! There's nothing better than floating in a cute tube out on the bay on a hot day while watching all the sail boats float by.

PHOTO #3: DUNE BERRY

My favorite shop up north is Dune Berry because they have the cutest selection of Lilly Pulitzer, Sail to Sable, Vineyard Vines and so much more! Of course I couldn't leave without a little souvenir... I was debating between this and this, but I ended up with the beautiful swing dress pictured! It's so comfy and perfect for throwing on in the summer!

PHOTO #4: DUNE CLIMB

The sleeping bear dunes are one of my favorite things to visit... however my dad somehow talked me into doing the dune climb all the way to Lake Michigan which is about 3 miles round trip. Usually 3 miles is nothing to me, but when you're walking on nothing but sand while going uphill and downhill while its 90 degrees outside... it adds up to a pretty good workout! I will say I'm glad I did it, and the view at the end really was worth the hike, but I won't be jumping at the chance to do it again anytime soon!

There's nothing like summer vacations in up north Michigan.  If I didn't tell you I know you'd never guess I'm standing in front of Lake Michigan on Grand Traverse Bay in Traverse City, MI.  With the natural ombre color to the lake it really is a beautiful place to vaca.  The area is very nautical, preppy with a laid back vibe.  I've popped into a few super cute shops in the area including The Dune Berry which carries all my favorite brands such as Lilly, Vineyard Vines and so much more.

AROUND TOWN // 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND

Happy Tuesday! We hope you all enjoyed the long holiday weekend! Its been busy for the both of us to say the least... one of us up north and the other moving! Between the festivities, we were both able to squeeze in tons of fun during the weekend as well! Check out what we've been up to...

Photo #1: Downtown- One of our favorite ways to spend summer evenings is a trip downtown! On this particular day we rounded up the whole family for a little surprise party for our Mom. Of course we couldn't resist taking a walk down to our favorite chevron wall and pop into Starbucks for an iced coffee!

Photo #2: Pool day- Saturday was a beautiful, sunny (and hot!) summer day, so naturally I packed up and headed to the pool! My favorite summer days are always spent reading a magazine in a lounger while getting some sun and listening to my favorite music. Also, I'm pretty much obsessed with my new water bottle! S'well bottles are my absolute favorite, and once I saw the donuts on it... I just had to have it!!

Photo #2: Painting the day away- We've been super inspired lately and we've been cooking up some fun projects! This little pic may or may not be a special sneak peek... :)

Photo #3: Iced coffee and bright ideas- We had our weekly blog meeting at a local Starbucks this weekend and had so much fun! The best ideas always start with a cup of coffee, right?? We both tried out the new cold brew with sweet vanilla cream and love it! For sure my new summer go-to. :)

AROUND TOWN // NATIONAL DONUT DAY

Happy Monday, friends! 

Here's a little peek into what we were up to this past weekend...

Photos #1 & #2- National Donut Day: As you all know, Friday was National Donut Day! If you know me, you would know I'm addicted to donuts and couldn't resist celebrating, so my little pup and I took a little road-trip to pick up Dunkin' Donuts!

Photo #3- Starbucks "pink drink": Everytime I log onto Facebook or Instagram my feed is floded with posts and pictures of this pink drink from Starbucks. Obviously I had to try it out for myself (and take a picture of it too... do it for the insta!), the verdict? Love it! It really does taste like pink starburst!

Photo #4- a new Vineyard Vines: A few weeks ago a brand new vineyard vines store opened in Michigan! Of course we had to go check it out in person. They have the cutest things in there from whale shaped coozies to beachy jewelry toadorable dresses for every occasion!
