AROUND TOWN // LAST SUMMER WEEKEND

Where did the summer go?? I feel like  just blinked and it was over! Between my work schedule this coming week, an exciting launch coming to File to Style this Wednesday (!!!) and starting fall classes this Thursday I'm already exhausted. But, I always say the busiest weeks are the best weeks!

Also, a little update: with the fall being a busy time for the both of us, we've decided to cut back to posting here on the blog 3 days a week instead if 5! We thought it would be the best way to share quality content with our readers as well as put the focus and effort into a big project we've been working on! So, check back on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for your dose of File to Style!

Now... a little peek at what we've been up to this weekend!

PHOTO #1: LILLY LOVE

After running around all day on Friday, it was such a nice surprise to see some of my Lilly Pulitzer after party sale goodies rolling in! I got some peices that will be great to wear into the fall and comfy to wear in class!

PHOTO #2: GOAL GETTERS

We've been putting in the hustle this past week trying to get these cute pens ready for purchase! Here is just a little sneak peek we snapped while setting up our little office and shipping space... we like to think of is as "organized chaos'. Ha!

PHOTO #3: FRESH BLOOMS

On Sunday I spent a lot of time prepping for the first day of class coming up... including a practice drive to campus since I'll be commuting (don't judge, I'm terrible with directions!). I was so excited to find a Trader Joe's right across the street from my school, so of course I had to pop in to pick up some fresh flowers and my favorite coffee! If you've never tried Trader Joe's breakfast blend coffee you need to!

Good luck to all of you starting class this week! Let's make it a great semester!

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL OUTFIT INSPIRATION // TWINNING WITH YOUR LILLY AGENDA

With the excitement from the Lilly Pulitzer after party sale still fresh, I wanted to share some of my more recent Lilly favorites but with a little twist... I'm matching the patterns on the Lilly agendas to a few clothing pieces that would make a perfect first day of school outfit!

And yes, I'm that girl that walks into the first day of class totally matching my planner. ;)

OUTFIT #1: LAID BACK LILLY

This outfit is comfy and cute- perfect for lazy day or a chilly fall day! I feel like I wear a variation of this outfit practically every day during the fall and winter semesters, but it's so easy to throw on and the Lilly popovers are a great alternative to a sweatshirt since they're so fun and look a bit more put together!

You could also swap out the popover in this outfit for a Lilly inspired college sweatshirt!

OUTFIT #2: LILLY LUNCH DATE

Pack up your tote bag with your agendanotebooks and wallet, throw on this easy t-shirt dress and this look will take you from class to your special lunch date! I love that the Lilly t-shirt dresses are comfy, cute and fun to wear! I can't wait to wear mine for the first few weeks of the semester!

OUTFIT #3: LAYERED IN LILLY

This last outfit is perfect for those later fall days that are crisp and a little chilly, but you don't need your heavy duty winter jacket yet. Obviously pink and navy is one of our favorite color combinations and we even love incorporating it in our outfits!

Thanks for stopping by, we would love to know how you would twin with your agenda!

DREAMING UP A NEW OFFICE WITH POTTERY BARN TEEN

I recently received the Pottery Barn Teen magazine in the mail and seriously feel in love with something on every page.  A cup of coffee later and dog ears on every page I'm convinced there's something for everyone in this catalog.  Neither of us here at File to Style have the luxury of having a separate space designated for just an office so we both have space set aside in our bedrooms.  In order to use the space wisely I tend to find desks, chairs, accessories  designed for small spaces like teen rooms or dorm rooms almost the perfect size for what I need.  But we all have dreams right?...so check out our Dream Desk pinterest board for more inspiration.

Here are a few items I have my eye on:

Bulletin Board: Who doesn't need a good quality bulletin board to pin ideas,  motivational quotes, reminders and pictures to keep you inspired while you work.

Desk Organizer: These items are probably the most crucial for keeping order on any desk.  When I found this set that includes a pencil cup, magazine caddy, and divided tray in hot pink I knew it was love at first sight. Oh and if hot pink isn't your thing don't worry they have the most amazing turquoise and gold polka dot options to choose from.

Desk and Storage: After I got over the initial love affair with the blue and white striped walls...swoon. I absolutely feel in love (a 2nd time) with the desk and the amount of storage.  I really like how there's 2 work areas and it doesn't take up that much space.  If we're having an impromptu blog meeting or I'm working while my kids are doing homework this is the perfect set up.

Well I'm off to finish my cup of coffee and convince my husband why blue and white striped walls are a good idea...wish me luck :-)

5 TIPS FOR A BETTER MORNING

Sticking with the theme of back-to-school and since I know those early wake up calls are always the hardest thing to get used to after sleeping in all summer long, I wanted to share a few of my favorite tips to get the morning started on the right side of the bed!

I always try to include every one of these tips (some mornings are better than others!) as well as somewhat stick to a routine- when I do, I always feel like I'm more awake and in a better mood throughout the day! It's way easier to deal with that 8am math class when you haven't just rolled out of bed, trust me. So, here are my 5 tips for a better morning...

1.) GET OUT OF BED...
The second you turn off your alarm, get out of bed! Don't hit snooze, don't lay in bed and browse all of your social media accounts... just get out of bed! This will help you start to wake up since you won't be laying in bed thinking about how tired you are.

2.) EAT BREAKFAST AND DRINK COFFEE...
Eating breakfast in the morning is so important! This will start your metabolism as well as give you the energy you're going to need to tackle your busy day. If you're not a big breakfast eater- try something small and easy like an apple or a banana, a granola bar or a smoothie. Something is always better than nothing. Oh, and don't forget to brew up your favorite cup of coffee!

3.) PLAY YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC...
Turn up your favorite tunes in the morning! Set the mood with some calming and energizing songs that will get you ready to take on the day! Currently my favorite album to play in the morning is Handwritten by Shawn Mendes, but I also love all of his music. This is the perfect mix of soft and slow and fun and energizing- perfect motivation for the day ahead!

4.) PACK YOUR BAG AND LAY OUT YOUR CLOTHES THE NIGHT BEFORE...
Picking out your outfit and making sure your bags are packed the night before makes any morning routine run so much smoother. Honestly, there's nothing worse than rushing to pick out and outfit to end up throwing something sloppy on or not being prepared for your day because you completely forgot to pack your bag!

5.) TAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF...
Wake up a half an hour earlier and take some time for yourself! It can be watching an episode of your favorite T.V. show, journaling, making a to-do list or just drinking your coffee in peace. I use this time to wake up and ease into my morning routine, usually with HGTV on in the background. If I don;t take this time for myself I feel like my whole day is thrown off!

Hopefully these tips were helpful for this upcoming semester!

AROUND TOWN // BIRTHDAY WEEKEND FUN!

Happy Monday everybody! This weekend was a great one- Friday we went up to one of our favorite outdoor malls for coffee and a little window shopping and Sunday I had two little birthday parties! It was such a great way to spend one of the last weekends before class starts!

BTW- If you're not shopping the Lilly Pulitzer after party sale right now then what are you doing?!?

PHOTO #1 WEEKEND FUN & COFFEE RUNS

Friday night we took a trip to our favorite outdoor mall and of course we had to stop for a Starbucks! It was so much fun popping into our favorite shops as well as take a break to sip our coffee and chat about some very exciting things coming to File to Style at the end of this month!

PHOTO #2 PAPERSOURCE PARTY

After finishing our coffee we stopped by one of our favorite stores- Papersource! We always leave so inspired with all their fun products and brightly decorated store! This particular day they even had decoration station set up so you could bring in your planner and decorate it with all their cool washi tape, stamps, stickers and pens for F-R-E-E! How cool?!

PHOTO #3 BIRTHDAY FUN!

My birthday was actually this past Wednesday, so this weekend I was able to squeeze some celebrations in! On Sunday all the sweet girls I work with thew me a little party complete with pizza, cupcakes and even a donut backpack! That was so much fun! Later on in the evening our whole family went out to dinner and had even more pizza and cake... can you say carb overload?! Thanks to everyone who made my birthday so special!

We hope you have a great week!

LILLY PULITZER AFTER PARTY SALE!

By now we're sure you've all heard the exciting news... the annual Lilly Pulitzer after party sale is happening Monday, August 22nd! We're beyond excited to score a few goodies at a major discount. You should know that between the two of us, we have a slight obsession with Lilly Pulitzer- between the fun colors and one-of-a-kind prints this brand is a favorite for sure.

Some of our favorite items Lilly offers are the easy and comfy t-shirt dresses (like the one I'm wearing in this pic!) as well as the amazing agendas! Both are perfect to snag before heading back to school this semester- trust us, you'll get so much use out of both!

This year I made a little list of things that I'm hoping to add to my closet from the sale including a sweater or two to transition my wardrobe for fall, a new popover since I seriously wear mine to class every other day and of course a pretty new Lilly dress!

Are you guys excited about the sale next week- what are you hoping to add to your Lilly collection?!

FALL WISHLIST

With fall right around the corner it has me dreaming about cozy sweaters, hot cider and pumpkin spice everything! Naturally, I channeled all that excitement into a little fall wishlist /shopping guide.

I love pieces that you can mix and match with multiple things to make tons of new outfits that look fresh and new every time you wear them- and that's where good basics come into play! I love finding cute basic tees that are a little different- like the one from Anthropologie pictured above! You can throw this basic tee on with a pair of jeans and some cute booties and you have an easy, comfy fall outfit! Throw on a cozy cardigan, a cute little hat and some sassy sunnies and you're ready for a pumpkin spice latte date!

I can't wait to go shopping for all the fall essentials- now I just have to wait until the weather cools down a bit!

GET ORGANIZED // 5 THINGS TO START WRITING IN YOUR PLANNER

These past few weeks we've been a little bit planner obsessed- but we can't help it, planners are seriously amazing! Especially during the busy school year when I have to keep track of my work schedule, bills that are due, school assignments, projects, tests and not to mention wanting to have some sort of social life... I don't know how I'd get through without using a planner!

Later on in the semester I'm planning on sharing how I've been organizing my Rifle Paper Co. planner (which I've been loving BTW!), however I want to wait until I actually have some assignments written in there. For now, I thought I would share 5 things I think you should be writing in your planner that will help you stay organized!

1.) Class schedule and assignments- This one is probably a no-brainer, but it's so important to do if you want to stay on top of your grades! The day you get your syllabus, take an hour or so when you get home to write everything in your planner- test days, projects and due dates, extra credit assignments... anything and everything that is on that slip of paper! There is always a chance of dates being changed (which is super annoying, especially when you write in pen!), but that's why correction tape was invented! Trust me- stock up on this stuff.

2.) Work schedule and paydays- Probably another no-brainer, but you need to have it written down- especially when you don't work the same days every week! Since I started going to school I've always had a part time job that I need to schedule classes and studying around. Sometimes it can be difficult, but it's so much easier when you have your entire schedule written down and laid out in front of you! Also, writing down paydays and how much you get paid makes budgeting and saving money so much easier!

3.) Bill due dates- Right now I have a few things I need to pay for each month like my car insurance and phone bill (oh, and Netflix- just the important things.), and things like that I can't be late paying for! Writing it down in my planner when those bills are due as well as how much I owe is so helpful when I'm budgeting all my paychecks!

4.) Appointments- Anytime I go to an appointment like the dentist or the dermotoligist I make sure to throw my planner in my bag so I can schedule my next appointment. In my opinion, one of the most annoying things is to have to reschedule something 100 times because you didn't know you had class or had to go into work. Bringing you planner and scheduling right there saves a lot of frustration in the future. Also, write it down as soon as you schedule so you don't forget!

5.) Social commitments- If you're invited to a party, wedding, or even want to get coffee with a friend schedule it and write it down! Especially during the school year when your free time might not be as frequent scheduling things that you want to do is really helpful. Plus, you'll get excited when you see that your next coffee date is after your 8am lecture!

Hopefully these little tips were helpful for getting organized! Is there anything that you write in your planner that we don't have listed?

Happy planning!

AROUND TOWN // BACK-TO-SCHOOL SHOPPING

Happy Monday, everybody! We hope you enjoyed your weekend, this weekend we've been preparing for the busy back-to-school season- cleaning out backpacks, thinking up healthy lunch ideas and of course running over to our local Target to stock up on school supplies! We thought it would be fun to bring you along as well as share some of our BTS favs!

PHOTO #1 PRETTY PLANNERS

Even though it seems like we own a million planners between the both of us, we can't help ourselves when we see pretty planners! How can you resist simple gold dots or pretty florals? If you only get one thing before heading back to class this fall, you definitely need a good planner to keep track of your crazy busy life!

PHOTO #2 BRIGHT BINDERS

If you read our college school supplies list we posted last week, you would know about my love for binders! There are so many perks about staying organized with binders... they'll last forever, you can customize them from the front cover to how you organize it on the inside and you can even double up on binders for classes to save room and a little bit of money! Seriously, you can't go wrong.

PHOTO #3 WASHI TAPE

Okay, so technically washi tape isn't a necessity when you're back-to-school shopping... but it's so fun! With a few rolls of washi tape you can do tons of fun back-to-school DIYs like decorating notebooks, pencils, or even your laptop or locker! Personally I love using it in my planner just to make it look fancy and fun!

PHOTO #4 BACK-TO-SCHOOL BEAUTY

In my opinion heading back to class is the perfect time to stock up on your favorite skincare items, or even pick up a few new goodies to add to your routine! Skincare is so important, especially during the school year when you're relying on coffee to stay awake and pulling all-nighters to cram for that math test- your skin needs the TLC. I rounded up some of my favorite drugstore buys below...
CeraVe eye repair cream- Even though I'm only 20, getting in the habbit of using an eye cream is important! It will help with aging down the road, but it will also keep your eyes bright and awake during class! This is the best I've tried so far and it's under $15!
Simple micellar cleansing water- Not only does this product remove all of my makeup (even waterproof mascara!) but it gives my skin a nice cleanse before I go in with my favorite cleanser!
CoverGirl clump crusher- This is my favorite mascara, and it's so inexpensive since it's from the drugstore! This curls my lashes and makes them look really pretty, so easy to swipe on in the morning before heading to class.

Thanks for stopping by and happy school shopping!

MY FAVORITE PLANNER STICKERS // SWEET KAWAII DESIGN

Happy Friday! This week has been a busy one... we've barely found time to blog! Busy weeks always end up being the best weeks, don't you agree?? Anyway, since we've been sharing all of our back-to-school favorites and especially our favorite planners- I wanted to dedicate a post all about where I get my favorite stickers to use in my planner, Sweet Kawaii Design!

A little disclaimer- I don't go sticker crazy in my planner, but I love to have a few sheets on hand to decorate when I can squeeze it in! Here are some of my favorites to use...

These book stickers actually make schoolwork look fun! I like to use these when I have a ton of homework or a test to study for- tests and projects don't look as scary when there's a smiling book next to it!

If you know me, you would know that donuts are one of my favorite things ever... so you know I always have a sheet of donut stickers on hand! Since weekend donut runs are a thing over here I tend to get a lot of use out of these... plus I just stick them wherever I want because they're so cute!

Technically these are considered hot cocoa stickers, but I like to think of them as lattes! I'm a big fan of coffee and obviously coffee is a big part of my day... how could I function without it?! So little coffee stickers were a must. These are fun for coffee dates, or to stick on your planner daily!

Omg, how adorable are these little fall stickers?! With fall right around the corner and all the trips to the cider mill. hay rides, corn mazes and pumpkin spice everything you need these!

Do you use stickers in your planner? Thanks for stopping by and make sure to check out Sweet Kawaii Design on Etsy!

COLLEGE SCHOOL SUPPLIES SHOPPING LIST

One of my favorite things about the back-to-school season is shopping for fresh school supplies! However, since college kids don't usually get one of those fancy shopping lists telling you everything you're going to need for each class, I've had to figure out my own organization system and come up with my own shopping list. With this being my third year in college already (omg I'm getting old?!?) I have this whole organization and note-taking thing down to a science... or at least pretty close! Today I wanted to share what I think are the most important supplies you'll need to get through the upcoming school year- I even put together a fancy shopping list you can save to your phone and bring with you to target so you get everything you need to succeed!

1.) Planner- In college you need a planner. Without one, you'll be lost- trust me. There are so many more assignments, test dates, projects, etc. that you'll need to keep track of, as well as a job or any extra curricular activities you're planning on joining- and if you think you can just remember everything without writing it down, you're wrong. There are so many fun planners out there you'll definitely be able to find one that fits your lifestyle!

2.) Binders- Personally I like to use binders to organize my notes- that way I can reuse them each semester and I don't feel bad about wasted paper that was left over. These are my favorite to use because they're so durable and under $4! You also can't forget the filler paper and cute dividers!

3.) Cute notebooks- Although binders are my go-to, I can't help but get one or two notebooks from the back-to-school section! Notebooks are always a good thing to have on hand just in case a teacher actually requires you to use one. Plus, how could I not get this donut notebook??

4.) Pencil pouch- Of course you need a cute new pencil pouch to hold all of your favorite pens, pencils and highlighters!

5.) Index cards & sticky notes- I go through index cards like water! These really work when you use them to study material for a test. Also, I like to use sticky notes in my textbooks as an alternative to actually writing in them so at the end of the semester I can go back and remove them in hopes of getting a few more $$ back when I resell!

6.) Backpack- Finally, you need a cute backpack that fits alllll the things! I purchased a backpack from Madeline & Co. last year when they first came out and I still love it! Seriously, it fits so much- and mine has my school colors on it!

Hopefully this post was helpful during BTS shopping!

A VERY BLUEBERRY OATMEAL

Today we are stepping a bit out of our comfort zone of the typical file to style posts and share a quick  recipe that is too delicious not to share with our readers.

Mornings are always so hectic in my house between getting ready for work, unloading dishes, switching laundry, catching up with emails, thumbing through my insta feed (and now watching insta stories) I needed a quick and healthy breakfast.

After our trip to the farmer's market I bought way to many blueberries.  I mean how was I supposed to resist the cuteness of how they were displayed in their teal containers.  So simple yet so irresistible.

I absolutely love blueberry pancakes but reserve those to the weekends when I have more time to cook.  For the weekdays I came up with something I could fix in under 2 minutes.  Blueberry Oatmeal.

Ingredients:
1 cup of water
1/2 cup of quick cooking oats
1/2 cup of blueberries
2 tablespoons of honey
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions:

Bring water to a boil then stir in oats.

Add blueberries, honey and cinnamon.  Stir for 1 min.  Remove from heat and let stand for 3 mins to cool.  Enjoy!!

See I told you it was super easy, quick and healthy.  I've even thought of adding more things like raisins or almonds.

Hope you get a chance to try this and let us know how you like it.

xoxo,
Amy and Angela

AROUND TOWN // FARMERS MARKET FUN

Happy Monday! This weekend was a good one... popcorn, new hallmark movies, pool days and a trip to the farmers market! The best kind of relaxation before the hustle and bustle of back to school is in full swing!

PHOTO #1 VERY BERRY:

How can you resist fresh berries, especially when they're displayed so cute!? We love berries, especially in the summertime- so refreshing, and you can have so much fun coming up with easy recipes using these cuties. (PSSST- later this week we're sharing a quick, easy back-to-school breakfast idea using our farmer's market finds!)

PHOTO #2 WEEKEND LATTE

Since our local farmer's market is downtown, we can't leave without making a pit stop at our favorite coffee shop! If you're ever somewhere that offers a lavender latte you have to try it, seriously they're so good! Also, we always have our pens and planners in tow since we always end up having an impromptu planning session!

PHOTO #3 MOVIE NIGHT

There's nothing better than a movie night- especially when it involves new hallmark movies and popcorn! Perfect way to spend a Saturday night in.

Thanks for stopping by, we hope you all enjoyed your weekend! Only a few more weekends left until school starts, how crazy is that??

SHOP SPOTLIGHT // THE TINY TASSELL

Happy Friday, friends! If you follow us on our Instagram page as well as here on the blog, you might have picked up on a few pink and navy striped pens that we've been very excited about! We can't spill too much about that just yet- but stay tuned because exciting things are happening really soon! So, since we are still learning all the ins and outs of business we recruited the help of some of our favorite shops and brands to participate in our new blog series "Shop Spotlight"!! In this series we get to learn more about what it's like to have a business of your own as well as introduce you to some seriously awesome shops!

Today we are so excited to kick off this series with our friend Mimi's adorable etsy shop- The Tiny Tassel! (Trust us, you won't be able to resist the cute necklacesbracelets, and earrings she offers!)

1.) What inspired you to start The Tiny Tassel?
It all started with a pair of hot pink tassels! The Tiny Tassel was created almost a year ago (!!) when I found myself obsessed with tassels! I got to work making tiny tassels and who knew it'd become such a hit!

2.) How do you come up with new designs for products?
I find inspiration for new designs everywhere! Whether it's ideas from friends or color inspo from my drink at dinner, I always find myself thinking of new tassel creations. With each design I know that it's something that I'd love to wear and I hope that others will enjoy them too!

3.) Do you have any tips for someone who is interested in starting their own online shop?
Organization, an open mind & no hesitation will truly push you in the right direction of starting your own business! Don't be afraid of sharing new ideas & products ideas with others, chances are they'll love it!! I have a few friends & family members that I can run my ideas by and its always great to hear their feedback!

4.) What are 3 things that you always have on your desk?
A bright pink pen, tassel threads & a bowl of Black Forest candies for a little extra brain food of course!

5.) What tools do you use to stay organized?
My planner, can't go a day without writing shop plans or making notes for an order.

My cellphone-- whether it's setting reminders or contacting someone through social media, this helps so much with my little business!

Making a list! I make a daily to-do list of all things tassels!

A big thanks to Mimi for being our first feature in this fun series! Make sure to check out her shop on Etsy, The Tiny Tassel!

PERFECT PLANNER PENS

Since we're sticking to our planner theme this week, today we're spilling about one of our favorite subjects... pens!

We touched a bit on this in yesterday's blog post, but today we wanted to share allll our favorites!

Obviously our favorite pens are our very own pink & navy pens! Trust us when we say they are amazing... blue ink, pretty stripes and makes your handwriting look awesome? Count us in! Plus, these ballpoint pens won't bleed through anything- so feel free to use them in your planner, or even use them to take notes with! These will be available very soon, so keep your eyes peeled!

Another favorite is the LePen... specifically the periwinkle LePen! These are great because they come in so many different colors and they don't bleed through pages!

What is your favorite pen??

5 STEPS TO YOUR PERFECT PLANNER

If you can't tell by now, we're pretty excited for the start of all the academic planners! Since we know we're not the only ones who love planners, we've decided to dedicate this week to anything and everything you need to know about planners!

Today, we are sharing the "5 steps" to your perfect planner- AKA everything you need to make you excited to get organized! Click through the pics for all of our favorite planner accessories!

LePen pack // Rifle Paper Co. pencils // Navy & Pink pens- available soon, stay tuned!!

The most important thing about perfecting your planner (besides finding your perfect planner, of course!) is finding your perfect pen and highlighters! Personally, I like to use both pens and highlighters in my planner- color coding everything with my pens, and crossing off my to-do list with highlighters!

I also like to use sticky notes and page flags in my planner so I can write down shopping lists, to-do lists, and so I can plan ahead without permaniately writing it in my planner. Using sticky notes and flags can save you from having to break out the white out in the future! (although, having some white out on hand is also a good idea, my favorite to use is this!)

Stickers and washi tape may not be everyone's style, but I love using them in my planner! I don't use them everyday, but it's fun to add a cute sticker here and there- my personal favorite stickers are from Sweet Kawaii Designs! How can you not be happy when looking at donuts with smiley faces?! I also like to use color coding dots to indicate paydays and when bills are due on my monthly view.

Having a few cute clips to keep your place in your planner is always a good idea! Plus, these options are so much more fun than just a plain old silver paper clips.

Last step, is getting a cute pencil pouch to put all of your planner accessories in!

What kind of things do you use to keep your planner organized and fancy??

XOXO
Angela & Amy
