AROUND TOWN // GIRLS WEEKEND UP NORTH

Good Morning and happy Monday, friends! We hope you had a great weekend and are ready for the week ahead!

This past weekend my cousins and I took a girls trip to their new cottage up north! Despite the weather being cold and rainy (and me only packing donut pool floats and shorts...ha.) we had a great time gift shopping, latte drinking, and watching say yes to the dress on the couch! I'm already looking forward to our next trip up north, but hopefully the weather will be a little warmer!

Anyway, here's a little peek into my weekend!

PHOTO #1: DINNER BY THE DOCK

We left for our girls weekend on friday afternoon, so the first thing we did when we got up there was drop off our luggage, throw on some warmer sweatshirts, and head back out for dinner! Although we ate inside since it was super windy and cold outside, we still sat by the windows so we could have a good view of the lake. I can't wait to go back later in the summer so we can eat outside on the dock!

PHOTOS #2 & 3: KISS ME COFFEE SHOPPE

On Saturday, the weather warmed up a little bit so we took advantage of the sunny afternoon to head into town to do a little gift shopping and of course get some coffee! We found the cutest little coffee shop in town that had amazing lattes, bubble tea, and an instagram dream wall for awesome pictures! This was definitely one of my favorite stops of the trip...we even went back Sunday morning before heading home!

PHOTO #4: CHILLIN UP NORTH

If you can't tell from this pic, we were freezing! Like I said, I wasn't very prepared when I was packing. However, my cousin and I (who are both in the same sorority on campus, how cool??) both remembered to pack our favorite Letters by Alex sweatshirts for the weekend!

PHOTO #5: A WHALEY FUN WEEKEND

Sadly, all fun things must come to an end. However, this was only the beginning of a fun summer! I have almost every weekend until class starts back up in September planned with fun weekends, and trips and I can't wait!

We hope you had a great weekend! Thanks for stopping by!

AROUND TOWN // BEACH VACATION

Is it just me or does this feel like the Monday-est Monday ever...?! Somehow that's always the case the day after you get home from a vacation! If you follow our Instagram and stay up to date with our blog, you would know I spent a week at the beach up north! It was so much fun to relax and spend endless hours by the water- so today I wanted to share some of the highlights of the week!

PS- If you're from MI, or are planning on visiting you have to check out Traverse City! There are so many fun things to do, and Downtown Traverse City is the cutest!

PHOTO #1: LATTE BY THE BAY

I love a good latte, especially lavender lattes! (I know it might sound odd, but trust me- try one!) My favorite little coffee spot downtown is Espresso Bay... OMG their iced lavender lattes are addicting! Now I'm wishing I had one, maybe I can figure out how to DIY one?!

PHOTO #2: DONUT DISTURB

I think my donut pool float has quickly become one of my favorite purchases this summer! There's nothing better than floating in a cute tube out on the bay on a hot day while watching all the sail boats float by.

PHOTO #3: DUNE BERRY

My favorite shop up north is Dune Berry because they have the cutest selection of Lilly Pulitzer, Sail to Sable, Vineyard Vines and so much more! Of course I couldn't leave without a little souvenir... I was debating between this and this, but I ended up with the beautiful swing dress pictured! It's so comfy and perfect for throwing on in the summer!

PHOTO #4: DUNE CLIMB

The sleeping bear dunes are one of my favorite things to visit... however my dad somehow talked me into doing the dune climb all the way to Lake Michigan which is about 3 miles round trip. Usually 3 miles is nothing to me, but when you're walking on nothing but sand while going uphill and downhill while its 90 degrees outside... it adds up to a pretty good workout! I will say I'm glad I did it, and the view at the end really was worth the hike, but I won't be jumping at the chance to do it again anytime soon!

I hope you enjoyed a little peek into my week at the beach! Now I can't believe that summer is almost over!

AROUND TOWN IN TRAVERSE CITY

Beach Cover Up // Malabar Bay (similar)
Donut Float // Target

There's nothing like summer vacations in up north Michigan.  If I didn't tell you I know you'd never guess I'm standing in front of Lake Michigan on Grand Traverse Bay in Traverse City, MI.  With the natural ombre color to the lake it really is a beautiful place to vaca.  The area is very nautical, preppy with a laid back vibe.  I've popped into a few super cute shops in the area including The Dune Berry which carries all my favorite brands such as Lilly, Vineyard Vines and so much more.

Here's a few of a my favorite vacation looks.  Oh and vacation hair, don't care has my been my motto and go to look :-)

Top // Old Navy

Romper // Target (similar)

WHAT I'M PACKING FOR VACATION & OUTFIT INSPIRATION

T-minus two days until I leave for a much needed beach vacation! I'm so excited to spend all day by the water and get in a full week of relaxation before I head back to school in September. To prepare for my week in the sun, I've spent all week packing and shopping for easy breezy outfits that will look cute, be comfortable and most importantly be light and airy since the temps look like they're going to be in the 90's all week! (PS- unfortunately my poor pup can't come along on this trip... but he's so cute I want to find a way to sneak him in... maybe in my monogrammed tote?!)

I wanted to pack a little bit of everything since I know our plans for this trip can range from going on a hike in the morning to dinner and shopping downtown in the evening. So I have everything from my favorite t-shirt dress and easy romper to comfy running shorts and my favorite Nike shoes! Also, I kind of packed with a color scheme to make it even easier to put together an outfit! As you can tell I have a ton of blue and of course my favorite little pink purse!

Like I mentioned before, one day we're planning on going for a hike, so I put together a comfy outfit that won't be too hot. I found both my shirt and sports bra at Marshalls for under $8!

Packing something versatile, like a good pair of denim shorts that can be matched with different shirts saves a lot of room in your suitcase. Casual outfits like these can be quickly thrown on for a bike ride downtown or a walk to the corner ice cream shop! Cute, quick and comfortable.

Lilly Pulitzer dress (similar, this year's print) // Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB // Jack Rogers sandals

Since I'm a dress girl at heart, I couldn't forget my favorite sundresses! Weather its for walking around town thrown over a bathing suit or for a dinner downtown, you can never go wrong bringing along a few dresses.

Of course I had to make sure my beach bag was fully stocked since I'm planning on spending most of my time on the beach! I packed my favorite swimsuits, cover ups and alllll the sunglasses! Obviously the most important stuff.

I can't wait to share more snaps from my trip next week, so make sure you're following along on our Instagram!

OFFICE WITH A VIEW

Summer is finally here and we are loving every minute of it but part of us wish we were still kids and had the time off.  It's kind of a tease to have the first day of summer be on a Monday where most of us had to work. Why is it not a national holiday so people can have an extra long weekend...

Whenever I work from home during the summer I always have good intentions to try working outside on my back patio.  But I have to be honest it doesn't exactly work out like I thought it would.  For instance, it's so sunny that I can't see my computer screen, I can't find the right amount of shade, the wind blows my papers all around and not to mention the bug distraction.  On really hot days I've given up the idea of working outside and just settled on the window with the best possible natural light.

Since my view is not all that spectacular other than having an abundance amount of natural light I thought I'd bring the view to all of you.

Check out our new Pinterest board for more offices with a view and in the meantime here are some of our favorites.

Check back all week for fun posts celebrating the start of summer.

WHAT'S IN MY CARRY-ON?

Tomorrow I'm escaping the cold weather and heading down to Florida for the next few days! To say I'm excited would be an understatement... the next few days are going to be packed with fun, family, friends, food... oh and the best part, no work and school! For today's post I thought it would be fun to share what I keep with me on my carry-on since I know there's going to be a lot of traveling coming up for spring break...plus I'm a nosy person and these are some of my personal favorite posts to read!

ENTERTAINMENT
Magazines/ books: I love flipping through magazines and reading books, but with my crazy schedule lately I haven't had time to do either! I'm taking full advantage of the couple hours on the plane to squeeze in a bit of reading. I really want to read The Choice since the movie just came out! Nicholas Sparks books are always my favorite!
Earbuds: I'm obsessed with these rose gold earbuds! They're so cute and unique! I always have to have earbuds with me no matter where I am because I'm always listening to music. I would not want to be stuck on a plane ride without these... how am I going to survive without jamming out to my fav songs??

SCHOOLWORK PLANNING NECESSITIES
Erin Condren Planner: After working 30 hours over the Valentine's Day weekend, I decided to treat myself to a new planner that I've had my eye on for a while! Even though I'm on "vacation" I still have classes going on during the few days I'm going to be away, so bringing my planner is necessary to make sure I don't fall behind.
InkJoy pens: Of course I couldn't have my planner without my favorite pens! These are great because they write so smooth, never bleed through the pages and come in a bunch of colors!
Textbooks and homework: Just in case I feel the need to get some homework out of the way on the plane.

BEAUTY
Makeup bag: I like to bring my whole makeup bag with me on my carry-on just so I can keep track of everything and don't have to worry about it getting lost. This way I can also touch up my makeup if I feel the need to. Some of my favorite products are my Benefit roller lash mascara, Physician's Formula liquid eyeliner and of course a hydrating lip balm to protect my lips from the dry air!
"Moisturizers": With the medication I'm using on my skin, I can't use a traditional moisturizer anymore. However, the air here is super dry and the air on planes tends do be dry as well, so to get around my anti-moisturizer regimen I use my Mario Badescu rose water spray to give my skin a little extra hydration as well as my Bare Minerals complexion rescue to even out my complexion as well as protect it from the sun since this product has an SPF 30.
Hand cream: I never go anywhere without a hand cream, and this one smells so good! My hands have been so dry, this is a must especially when traveling.

EXTRA
Sunglasses: Of course I need to bring sunglasses since I'm going to the sunshine state! I always have these with me too- you never know when you're going to need them!
Wallet: This seems like a no-brainer, but obviously I need this to hold my boarding passes, ID, starbucks card (duh) and a little vacation money!
Snacks: Luna bars are my favorite, I always have one in my bag! These are great for when you're in between meals but need something to hold you over.

Thanks so much for reading! Let us know what you keep in your carry-on in the comments below!
